| The school is a two form entry, this means there are up to 60 children in each group, taught in parallel classes. Admissions are managed by the London Borough of Enfield Admissions Department
Children start in the Early Years Unit - where we have a 60 place nursery (30 morning and 30 afternoon places). Once parents and carers know that they have been offered a place in our Nursery (usually in May) they are invited to a meeting later in the summer term where information about the Early Years Unit will be available. Parents will have the chance to ask questions and talk to staff about any problems or worries they may have. In the term before your child's admission to nursery you will be invited to a series of 'play sessions' when you will have the chance to come and meet our staff and see how the nursery works. |
You will be able stay with your child to help settle them in. By the autumn term, when children are ready to start in the nursery they are admitted on a staggered basis. We feel it is important that we spend time getting to know your child and making them feel as comfortable in this new setting. From nursery, children progress to our reception class where the emphasis changes slightly and they are prepared for a more structured education setting.
We know that it can be a big change for a child leaving the foundation stage (nursery and reception) and moving to Year 1 (Key Stage 1), but we endeavour to make this transition as smooth as possible both for the child and also the parent. Parents and carers are invited to a transition meeting (in the summer term before moving to Year 1) where information will be available about what to expect when their child moves to Key Stage 1.
Later in the autumn term Year 1 parents are invited to a presentation about how we teach Numeracy, Reading and Handwriting. We recognise that parents are their child's first educator and for this reason we feel it is important that you know how best to support your child's learning.
Children move up through the school until they reach Year 6, when it is time to think of choosing an appropriate secondary school. Once again, parents are not on their own. The school arranges Secondary Transfer meetings where parents are invited to come and listen to talks given by the Headteacher.
The Admissions Procedure
For places both in Nursery or Reception class at the planned time of admission (usually the September before a child reaches its 4th or 5th birthday) parents/carers are expected to complete an official application form and return it to the school of their first choice, by a set date. The Local Education Authority will then notify the parent/carer in the April prior to their child's September admission if they have been successful in their first choice of school.
EVEN IF YOUR CHILD HAS BEEN ADMITTED TO OUR NURSERY IT DOES NOT GUARANTEE A PLACE IN RECEPTION - IT IS NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE LONDON BOROUGH OF ENFIELD OFFICIAL APPLICATION FORM FOR A PLACE IN RECEPTION CLASS.
If you have been successful in your application for either Honilands Nursery or Reception class then we will also write to invite you to an induction meeting.
If you have any queries about the admissions procedure or admissions criteria, please speak to the school office or alternatively ring Admissions Department on 0208 379 5501.
Casual Admissions Throughout the Year
These are children who are admitted to our school roll other than at the start of the academic year (September). Parents are welcome to enquire through the school office if there are vacancies in any of our year groups. Appointments are made for prospective parents and children to meet the Deputy Headteacher and have a look around the school on Tuesdays. If there is a space then the child will be invited back to school to spend some time with their new class on the following day with view to starting school on a full-time basis from the Thursday of that week.
