Behaviour Management Policy
How we manage inappropriate / bad behaviour:
§ Behaviour issues are explored and discussed during assemblies and class 'circle time'
§ Effective teaching and an appropriate curriculum
§ Dealing with situations calmly and quietly
§ Spending time with the child(ren). Talking about the behaviour and its effect on others
§ Reinforce that it is the behaviour rather than the child that we do not like
§ Telling the child what will happen if the behaviour continues
§ Finding something to praise (e.g. telling the truth) as soon as possible
§ Ignoring (as far as possible) attention seeking behaviour
§ All staff setting clear boundaries for behaviour
§ Seeing parents early to share concerns and discuss strategies for dealing with it.
§ Sharing challenging behaviour by involving other colleagues particularly those the child knows well, relates to, particularly trusts.
§ Seeking help from outside agencies e.g. Educational Psychologist, Education Welfare Officer, Child and Family Service, School Nurse and Place 2 Be
Applying sanctions, including:
§ Time out / isolation (short, timed periods, maximum of 5 minutes)
§ Loss of privileges (eg out of school hours and extra curricular activities, discos, monitor jobs, helping, indoor activities at playtime, club/team membership, freedoms/responsibilities that come with trust)
§ Loss of 'Golden Time'
§ Child sent to Phase Leader / Deputy Headteacher / Headteacher
