Writing Assessment Procedure
Preparation, administration and use of half termly writing targets
The autumn term writing assessments need to be compared with summer 2 results. If there are any discrepancies between individual children?s results teachers need to meet with the literacy coordinator to investigate the reason.
Writing assessments are to be;
- administered the term before
- levelled and then targets set by teacher
- written in the genre that will be mostly taught for the next half term
- completed by children with just a 10 minute introduction by the teacher
Once written they will be used to;
- level children?s writing, using level descriptors
- set next step target/s for each child
- enter into dialogue with children - the first week back after half term
- plan to the needs of the class
First week after half term...
- plan independent activities for whole class in order that you can share targets with each child (literacy lessons may not necessarily be conventional or in line with MTP, for this week)
- stick and highlight target sheets in front of children?s large green literacy books
- T/A time should be freed up to photocopy children?s target sheets etc.

ü Level work by using the levelling sheets and highlighter
ü Compare work and levelling sheets with previous term
ü If they achieved their targets set new ones, if they haven?t continue with previous ones
ü There is no need to issue new target sheets unless the child has moved up a level
ü If the child has not moved you still need to share their targets during dialogue week
ü There is no need to report these targets to parents as they will be the ones that you use for parents evening
ü Children should have between 1 and 3 targets ? mainly sentence/word level
